Ninety Six National Historic Site

If you enjoy a little history while you’re traveling, then you must stop by the Ninety Six National Historic Site. This is also referred to in the south as Old Ninety Six and Star Fort. You can stand in the exact place where the first battle in the southern part of the country was fought during the Revolutionary War. There are usually many reenactments that you can catch to get a real feel of what the soldiers went through at the time of the battle.

Tour the Tea Plantation

There is only one working tea plantation in the entire nation and it resides in Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina. It produces American Classic Tea and is operated by the Bigelow brand. The plantation itself is referred to as the Charleston Tea Plantation. You can enjoy taking a tour of the tea plantation by taking a seated trolley ride or you can explore it at your own pace on foot. We’re sure you’ll love the spectacular view of all the tea plants.

Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden

If you’re looking for fun things to do in Columbia, South Carolina, look no further than the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden. With over 70 acres, this zoo houses over 2,000 animals from over 350 species. The public gardens are themed with over 3,500 exotic plants that will be sure to take your breath away. There are also fishing, boating, and golf activities as well as cheap hotels in the area.

Old City Jail Tour

If you enjoy a little spookiness in your life, then a tour through the haunted Old City Jail is right up your alley. This once in full-bloom jail housed many of the South’s notorious criminals. Among them was Lavinia Fisher, the nation’s first female serial killer. Throughout your tour, you’ll get to hear the stories about how Lavinia and her husband robbed and killed patrons of their boarding house. Tourists still claim to catch sightings of her today in the old jail.

Bob Jones University Museum & Gallery

If you enjoy religious artwork, then you must stop by the Bob Jones University Museum & Gallery. It boasts the western hemisphere’s largest collection of European religious paintings. This museum is located in Greenville, South Carolina. You’ll get to see paintings, sculptures, and much more. If you prefer to walk through on your own, you can do so.
