Door to Hell – Volcanic Crater That is Burning Over 40 Years

“Door to Hell” is appropriately named gas field in Karakum desert in Turkmenistan, which has already burned more than 40 years. Flaming Crater was first found by Soviet scientists in 1970, as an area full of gas resources. Unfortunately, the land collapsed from the weight and pressure of the oil platform set in place.

Large quantities of methane gas harmful to the environment, free from the massive decline and prompt scientists to quickly react and burn gas, considering the cheapest and easiest solution. Gas planned to burn for several days. But what they do not expected, the fire is burning 4 decades, to this day. Today, this is a resort that attracts visitors from all over the world to come and see it up close hellish abyss.
