The entire village is situated at the coast of Lake Hallstatt or Hallstätter See. This lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe. Max. length  of the lake is 5.9 km and max. width is 2.3 km. Total surface area is 8.55 km². It is a popular tourist destination especially for scuba divers.
