6 Things That Make Perth A Perfect Family Holiday Destination

If you’re planning your next family holiday and want it to be absolutely fabulous, you might consider giving Perth a try. Perth is the capital city of Western Australia and is located on the Swan River and has access to a number of beautiful sandy beaches. But that’s not even the beginning, as Perth offers family activities that are hard to match, especially if you go there with kids. So in this guide, we’ll cover some of the top reasons why you should make Perth your next holiday destination.

Take Some Time to Walk the City

Perth is an ideal city for pedestrians since it’s mostly flat and has wide sidewalks and streets. It will let you soak up the atmosphere of the city and get to know how it all works out there. You will also more than likely stroll into some activities, or find a nice place to have lunch in. It’s not the most fun activity for your kids though, so consider renting them bicycles or taking them to a beach after the walk. You can take a walking tour, or if you’re more like me – you can organize your own.

Visit the Rottnest Island

Locally known as Rotto, Rottnest Island is only 10 miles from the coasts of Perth and is a must-see for anyone visiting the capital of WA. No cars are allowed on the island, which makes it completely different to anything you’re used to. Its relaxing atmosphere will definitely make you want to come back, and its beaches are extremely fun for kids as well. You can take a ferry to Rotto from Perth and don’t forget to bring your snorkeling equipment because you’ll definitely want to see the amazing underwater life.

Go To Freemantle

Freemantle is Perth’s port city and it’s only about half an hour distance from downtown Perth. It’s an amazing and rich place that is known for its support of artists. Freemantle Artists Center was originally built as a looney bin, so make sure to check that out. There’s also the Freemantle Prison, which is one of West Australia’s top cultural attractions. It even made it to World Heritage List, so don’t miss on that one. There’s much more to do in Freemantle and you will never get bored of it, so put it on your list and go there if you’re ever on vacation in Perth.

Perth Beaches are Awesome

There are plenty of beaches in and around Perth that you can visit and enjoy, such as Trigg, or Leighton beaches. You’ll be like in paradise and you won’t ever have to worry about bad weather. Keep in mind that after 2-3PM Perth the wind takes over and makes it difficult to enjoy the beaches fully, so if you’re going to the beach – do it in the early morning and enjoy it as long as you can.  Of course, this isn’t to say that you should miss ravishing sunsets that Perth beaches offer, but do experience it with your clothes on.

Swan River Cruise

You can get to Freemantle from Perth through a cruise as well, and enjoy the fantastic view the city of Perth has to offer. Not only you’ll see the beautiful city skyline in full view, but also many of the most beautiful estates in WA. While Perth is usually very pet-friendly, you won’t be able to board a pet on the cruise ship, so make sure to leave your pet in one of the pet hotels, some of which are especially good with cat boarding.

Kings Park

This gigantic park is a great place to spend a day with family. It’s an easy ride with CAT buses to get there from downtown, and it’s home to some of the most beautiful botanic gardens out there. If you’re with kids, Lotterywest Family Area will offer them a huge playground area with some of the most entertaining stuff, like fake planes and castles.

Conclusion

Perth is an exceptional city if you’re looking to spend some relaxing, quality time with your family on a holiday. Sure, it’s not the most action packed city out there, but that’s exactly why it’s great for families who are looking for a peaceful vacation. If you’re on a mission to have the best fun of your life, you might consider skipping Perth as a destination altogether. If you do go there though, don’t forget to bring a lot of sunscreen and your sunglasses.
