Bordeaux – French Sleeping Beauty

Bordeaux is often referred to as Sleeping Beauty because it is beautiful, but does not enjoy such popularity as Paris and other French cities. Bordeaux is a port city on the Garonne River in the Gironde department in southwestern France. With population of 239,157 inhabitants it is the 9th largest city in France. Total area is 19.06 squares miles.

The city is built on a bend of the river Garonne, and is divided into two parts: the right bank to the east and left bank in the west. The city’s nicknames are “La perle d’Aquitaine” (The Pearl of Aquitaine), and “La Belle Endormie” (Sleeping Beauty) in reference to the old center. Also Bordeaux is the the world’s major wine industry capital.

Beautiful architecture, museums, opportunities for tasting of the famous local wine, charming cafes, spacious squares, parks … also Bordeaux is a city of art, full of sights that you might be wondering what are they capable hands that built, but smaller, live slower and more relaxed.
