Ecuadorian state gets its name from its location on the equator. Ecuador’s borders stretching from Colombia to the north, Peru on the east and south and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It is a democratic republic in South America and in its composition includes the Galapagos Islands, about 965 miles west of Ecuador’s territory. The Galapagos Islands are known by many different names, but in fact, “Galapago” is archaic Spanish word referring to the islands turtles. Galapagos archipelago consists of 13 large and more than 200 small islands stretched through 1000 kilometers from the coast of Ecuador. This natural paradise is protected by UNESCO, but some plant and animal species are in the stage of extinction. Unfortunately, there are many endemic animals and their extinction would mean completely disappearing.
