Many people thought that this location is only set design of the film Indiana Jones. But this awesome place really exist. Petra is an ancient city, built in the red rocks of the desert in Jordan.

The most famous historical and archaeological city, and also the most visited tourist attraction in Jordan is the city of Petra. The city lies on the slope of Mount Hor, is founded in 312 BCE and is recognized for its architecture – processed stone blocks. The city of Petra is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985, and the records of the city’s UNESCO described as “one of the most precious cultural properties of man’s cultural heritage”.

Petra is an abandoned ancient city in present-day Jordan. Located on a mountain valley in eastern Watch Arab, in which overlapping routes to Gaza in the west, Bostra and Damascus in the north of Eilat on the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf on the other side of the desert. On December 6, 1985 Petra is included in the list of World Heritage of UNESCO. Petra is one of the new seven wonders of the world.

The Monastery, Petra’s largest monument, dates from 1 – century BC and was dedicated to the god Obodas. (this information is written on the ruins of the monastery).
