One of the many places which fascinates with its authenticity is the small village Monsanto. This destination is known for its ancient history and unique culture and tradition. It looks like it was taken out of a cartoon book. The area was inhabited from the early Stone Age and the village began to develop in the 12th century.

Villagers here still pursue the medieval spirit and lifestyle. In this Stone Age you are disconnected from the real and modern world and the only thing left for you is to enjoy. If you take the road to Portugal, go and see the beauty of this little piece of paradise on earth.

Monsanto is located in the eastern part of Portugal and is one of the strangest villages. Fascinating fact is that it is built between the giant rocks. Small buildings which represent habitats of local residents have been built between the stones at narrow streets of rocks and granite. Their houses were built between, under, and even in 200 tonne rock that makes them really interesting for every visitor. Large blocks stones are used as walls, floors and roofs. 760 meters above the sea level, home to only 800 people, donkeys are mainly transport vehicle. Buildings carved in large rocks are just some of the unusual features of this enchanting village.

At 400 meters high hill stands a very old square, built as a fortress. Castle played an important role when the Templars had several battles, including the Napoleonic conquests. At the village is not easy to arrive by public transport, but the incredible views, landscapes and the vividness are worth about starting out on a distant drive. While walking through the city, you can enjoy the spectacular scenery and instantly feel how is to be in prehistoric times.
