The Best Ways To Travel In and Around London

London is a fantastic city, whether you’re visiting for a day, a week or a month, and you want to make the most out of it whilst you’re there. That’s why we’re here to introduce the best ways to travel in and around London, so you can maximise your time, reduce the stress of travel and make sure that you are utilising your travel time!

Open Top Bus

First up, if you’re in London wanting to do some sightseeing, then getting on an open top bus is one of the best things you can do! This is the best of both worlds, as you are combining your travel with your sightseeing to make the most of your time. If you’re only in London for a day or two, we’d absolutely recommend this method of transport.

There are lots of open top bus providers in London who do different routes around the city. There will be commentary during the journey, available in many different languages, and the best part of this is that the buses stop off at all the major attractions. Your ticket can be used on any of the company’s buses, so you can simply hop off when you want to take a look at something in a bit more detail or explore the area, then you can simply hop back on whenever you’re ready and continue the route!

You can get tickets for a few days and the longer the ticket, the better value it is, so this can be a great method of transport for more than one day too!

Tube (London Underground)

London is famous for its fantastic London Underground system, which makes getting around London so quick and easy! Known as the Tube locally, it is a network of 272 stations and 11 lines that takes you all around London, as well as out into the surrounding areas. It’s a really efficient system that is also affordable, so it makes a great method of travel. Although you won’t get to see anything whilst you are travelling, if you’re in London for slightly longer, then we’d definitely recommend this. Not to mention, it’s a great way to travel more sustainably.

It can be quite daunting when you’ve never travelled on the tube before, with all the different lines, but it’s actually so much easier than you think and you’ll soon get the hang of it! All you need to do is go on your maps app on your phone, type in where you want to get to and select public transport, then it will tell you which lines you need to use and explain everything for you. If you’re unsure, ask one of the employees at the tube and they’ll help you along the way!

Walking

One of the best ways to travel around London in our opinion is by walking! You might not be able to do this for your whole trip, but we always advise planning out what you want to see and then creating a walking route throughout your trip. You could plan to explore one area one morning by walking, then get the tube to another and then explore that by foot, too. Or, if you’re travelling into London, you could drive and then choose parking in central London, then walk around and explore from here! Combining walking with the other transport methods is likely to be needed, but we would say to walk as much as you can, to make sure that you get to see all the little bits and pieces of London that you might not otherwise if you were using other transport!
