The Roman Forum or the latin name Forum Romanum is a forum (plaza) surrounded by the ruins of many important buildings of Ancient Rome. This place was originally a marketplaces, always referred by the citizens of Rome as Forum Magnum or simply Forum. For many centuries, the Roman Forum was a public place for the most important events in Rome. The elections, triumphal processions, gladiator fights, trial and other commercial affairs were always done on this place, in the heart of Rome.
Many of the most important buildings of Rome were built around the Roman Forum. Here are some of the surviving structures around the Roman Forum: Tabularium, Gemonian stairs, Temple of Saturn, Temple of Vespasian and Titus, Arch of Septimius Severus, Curia Julia, Rostra, Basilica Aemilia, Basilica Iulia, Temple of Caesar, Regia, Temple of Castor and Pollux and Temple of Vesta.
Also before the forum was build for many centuries and it kept changing it’s look. Another important place near the forum was the comitium which was the open-air public meeting space, before the Roman Forum became the main one.
