A Wide World of New Flavors: Cuisines to Try When You’re Expanding Your Palate

Many countries around the world have a whole host of dishes that could make anyone’s mouth water. Whether you’re a foodie or just looking for something new, you can expand your palate by trying some of the cuisines mentioned below.

Jerk Chicken From the Caribbean

For those that are looking to try a dish that’s very spicy, jerk chicken is a great choice. It has a lot of heat thanks to the jerk seasoning, but it also has a smokey flavor as well. Many restaurants serve this dish with rice or plantains.

Ratatouille From France

Ratatouille is a rather versatile dish as it can be served either cold or hot. It has a tomato base, and it is very colorful thanks to the variety of vegetables in it. Common vegetables used in this dish include peppers, zucchini, and eggplants.

Sushi From Mexico

Mexico is not usually where you might expect to see sushi. However, in the Sinaloa region of Mexico, where there is an abundance of fresh seafood, sushi rolls have become a common dish at restaurants. These aren’t the sushi rolls you likely see at your local Japanese restaurant, though. In addition to the fish, crab, shrimp, avocado, and cream cheese you might expect, in Sinaloa-style sushi, you will also find cooked steak and chicken, cheese, and chipotle sauces. While it might take a little extra research than finding the closest taco shop, if you like seafood and Mexican flavors, look for a Sinaloan Mexican restaurant in your area.

Korma From India

Korma often can be found in northern India. It consists of beef, chicken, lamb, or a vegetarian option with a variety of vegetables as well as a thick sauce. The sauce tends to be made with coconut milk, yogurt, or cream. Almonds are sometimes added to it as well as ginger, cardamom, and saffron. This dish is slow cooked to allow for enough time for all of the flavors to combine with one another.

Maultaschen From Germany

While some pasta dishes tend to be low on flavor, maultaschen is very different. Maultaschen is a dumpling dish that features dough pockets that have a savory filling. Usually, it is filled with a mixture of meat, bread crumbs, spinach, and onions. After each dough pocket has been filled and sealed, it is either boiled in broth or fried in butter.

If you are looking to expand your palate, there are all sorts of different dishes that you can try from around the world. All of the cuisines mentioned above have a variety of flavors that you may have never experienced before. Don’t be surprised if they soon become some of your favorite dishes.
