Surely you have ever wanted to be on top of a mountain and to feel free and fulfilled. Many mountaineers who have climbed the highest peaks of the world agree that the view from the top is beautiful and attractive. Although, all of them agree to the fact that there are deadly dangerous mountains and victims are just climbers. K2 – the second highest mountain on Earth is situated on the border between Baltistan, in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of northern Pakistan, and the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County of Xinjiang, China. Pakistanis claim that the height of the mountain is 8.611 meters which makes it the second-highest mountain on Earth after Mount Everest. Peak K2 is located on the border between the autonomous district Tashkurgan which is part of China and the northern areas of Pakistan. This region is controversial because India also claims that it is an integral part of the Indian state. K2 is currently under Pakistani administration.

The frightening look that has this kind of peak and its reputation was the cause of several series, films, documentaries and reports. The number of people who have reached the top of K2 is very small compared with the mountaineers whose goal is climbing on Mount Everest.

K2 is also known as Savage Mountain due victims that have been taken and to difficulty of climbing. The mountain was first explored by European research team in 1856 led by Henry Haversham Godwin-Austen, a 19th-century English geographer. Thomas Montgomery was a member of the team who named the top “K2” because it was the second discovered peak of the Karakoram Mountain.

The attempts in 1902, 1909, 1934, 1938, 1939 and 1953 to reach the top just failed. Yet to be confirmed, but it is assumed that on 26 July this year about 30 people climbed the peak which is more than the record in 2012 of 28 people. Climbing to the top is difficult due to frequent and severe storms and when people are so high they can not control anything.
